Feeding & Animal Welfare
A traditional slow-growth program designed around animal welfare, pasture health and flavour development.
Traditional Slow Growth
We believe in a traditional slow growth diet that enhances meat texture and flavour. Our cattle are kept HGP free and antibiotic free, reflecting our commitment to both animal welfare and eating quality.
PWW is accredited by the European Union Cattle Accreditation Scheme (EUCAS). No hormonal growth promotants are used and no animals are treated with Oestradiol, underpinning our focus on natural growth and consumer confidence.
Multi-Stage Feeding Program
PWW operates a carefully staged feeding program:
- High-quality grasses as the foundation diet.
- Light Wagyu grain and nutrient ration from around 8 months.
- Finishing Wagyu ration from roughly 18 months.
Free Range Roaming (Stage 1)
Wagyu cattle health and welfare is a priority. Carefully selected clover and rye grasses are sown so cattle can free-range across nutrient-rich soils. This natural diet supports strong growth and exposes cattle to a full spectrum of vitamins, minerals and trace elements.
Even as supplementary grain rations are introduced, cattle continue to roam and graze, promoting both physical and mental wellbeing.
Sheltered Feeding (Stage 2)
For the final 120–150 days, cattle move to our undercover barn with river-washed sand floors and a calm, controlled environment. Classical music and unrestricted access to hay help keep the animals relaxed.
During this stage, cattle receive a specially formulated finishing ration, designed to promote intramuscular mono-fat marbling and deliver the silky, rich umami flavour associated with the very best Wagyu.
Our Aim
Our aim is to sustainably produce the highest quality Wagyu. Keeping our cattle on grass for as long as possible delivers better taste and texture, and we believe it is also better for the animal and the land.
